Type Locality and Naming

South China Sea – Xisha islands. The type section is located at Xishen Hole No.1, Xishui Well No.1 in Yongxing Island, Xisha Islands ("Paracel Islands"). It was named and surveyed by Zhang M., Jin Q. et al. in 1992.

NOTE: There is not a standardized regional lithostratigraphy for the Xisha islands; nor for the nomenclature in the reference wells.

Synonym: Yinggehai Fm ?


Lithology and Thickness

It is characterized by the gray and white dolomitized compact wackestone, packstone and algal oncolites. Foraminifera and algal fossils are yielded. The thickness is 290 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It contacts to underlying Xuande Fm with erosional level.

Upper contact

It contacts to overlying Yongxing Fm with erosional level.

Regional extent

It is distributed in Xisha Islands ("Paracel Islands")
